Dive Deep into Yoga

Description
Yoga is a rich and expansive practice, with a history spanning thousands of years. Yet its teachings are not simply ideas to learn—they offer us ways of understanding ourselves, relating to our experience, and moving through life with greater awareness. The Yoga Immersion is an invitation to go beyond simply doing yoga and begin exploring what it means to embody it. Across three immersive weekends, we will explore the physical, philosophical and contemplative dimensions of yoga. You'll learn about the history and evolution of yoga, different philosophical traditions, foundational yogic texts and language, deities and mythology, alongside an introduction to Buddhist philosophy. We'll also explore the body through anatomy and asana—not in pursuit of the "perfect" pose, but to understand how your individual body moves. Through the three principles of yoga asana, you'll learn to find a balance of strength and ease and develop a more curious, responsive relationship with your body. But this course is about more than acquiring knowledge. Through yoga, meditation, embodied practice, discussion and personal reflection, you'll be invited to experience the teachings for yourself. To notice your patterns. To become curious about your inner experience. To explore stillness, awareness and presence. And ultimately, to discover how yoga can move beyond something you practise on a mat and become something you live. You don't need to want to become a yoga teacher to take part. The Immersion is for anyone who feels curious about yoga and wants to understand the practice—and themselves—more deeply. A pathway into Yoga Teacher Training The Yoga Immersion also forms the beginning of my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. If you've wondered about becoming a yoga teacher but aren't sure whether you're ready to commit to the full training, the Immersion gives you the opportunity to begin the journey first. Experience the philosophy. Experience the teaching. Experience the practice. Then decide whether you want to continue into teacher training. Because before we learn how to teach yoga, we first learn how to experience and embody it ourselves. Each weekend is held at Female Federation Gym in Ferrymead, Christchurch.
